Welcome to Inspec Direct. From here you will be able to search the Inspec database and process your search results in various ways to support your research needs.

Supported by cutting edge technology and this state-of-the-art search engine, the new platform is combined with an intuitive search interface that caters for both novice and expert searchers.

You can analyse results, save results to personal folders, download results in multiple formats, email results to a colleague or set up automated alerts.

To access the personalisation features you must first Register to set up your personal profile. You can do this by clicking on the 'Register' link under the login box. If you are already a member of the IET or have previously registered, simply login using your IET logon credentials.

The search interface comprises three main screens. These are:

  • Quick search
    Allows the user to enter words and phrases into a text box.
  • Advanced search
    Allows the user to perform complex searches using keyword search and browsing in specific fields, using Boolean operators, truncation, refine search, setting limit parameters and sorting results.
  • Expert search
    Command language for expert searchers that allows a high degree of search sophistication and flexibility.


User documentation

User documentation takes the form of comprehensive online help and downloadable PDF documents. The system incorporates help for each page within the interface as well as context sensitive help for individual functions. There are two PDF user guides. These are a high-level User Guide and a more detailed User Manual and be accessed from the following links:
