What Is Inspec Direct

The Inspec Direct system and the databases loaded on it are the copyright of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

The databases currently loaded on Inspec Direct are:

  • Inspec Database (1969 onwards)
  • Inspec Archive (1898-1968)

Subscriptions are available to all and also subsets of these datasets.

Who can use Inspec Direct

The Inspec Direct system may only be used by those persons who are covered by a current licensed subscription whether full or trial. This may be a personal subscription or an institutional subscription taken out by the organisation where the individual is currently employed or studying. Access will only be to the datasets covered by the relevant subscription.

Any user accounts and passwords that allow access to Inspec Direct or its personalisation features may only be used by the person for whom they were intended and may not be shared with other persons.

How may Inspec Direct be used

Inspec Direct may be used for the subscribing organisation's own internal purposes only and that any other authorised users may use Inspec Direct for research purposes only.

Users may not copy or extract substantial parts of the Inspec database; nor carry out any systematic or programmatic downloading (e.g., the use of automated 'robots' or other means to download or attempt to download in a short time period large amounts of material from Inspec Direct such as all database records from large search results).

Users may not modify, adapt, merge, publish, transmit sell, lend, rent, commercially exploit or make available to any third party (including any subsidiary, parent company or any other related or affiliated company or organisation) the whole or any part of Inspec Direct or its databases.

Other information

While the IET believes that the contents of the Databases are an accurate representation or interpretation of the original materials from which the Databases have been drawn, the IET does not warrant that the Databases will be accurate, complete or error-free.

Privacy

The IET reserves the right to monitor the user's internet access to Inspec Direct but in so doing will be bound by the assurances given in the IET Privacy Statement.
